BALTIMORE, Dec. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAUR), the global leader in higher education, announced several changes to its Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors elected Eilif Serck-Hanssen, President and Chief Administrative Officer, who will become Laureate’s Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2018, to the Board of Directors, also effective on that date.

Serck-Hanssen said, “I am excited to lead Laureate as CEO and look forward to working with our Board of Directors, our senior management team, and our faculty and staff worldwide to build on the company’s success, expanding access to high-quality education worldwide.”

Kenneth W. Freeman was also selected as Lead Independent Director. Freeman has served as an independent director since April 2017, and is the Allen Questrom Professor and Dean at Boston University Questrom School of Business.

Further, Robert Zoellick will resign as a director, effective December 31, 2017. Zoellick, who served as President of the World Bank from 2007 to 2012, and was appointed Chairman of AllianceBernstein earlier this year, has served as an independent director of Laureate since December 2013.

Zoellick said, “I am pleased to have been able to serve on Laureate’s Board of Directors through the company’s IPO and leadership transition. Doug Becker, the pioneering Founder and innovative CEO, has transformed an idea into a promising business venture. Laureate’s global network is expanding quality higher education in emerging markets, creating opportunities for improved skills, income, and inclusive development. I wish the best to Eilif, and his impressive global leadership team, and look forward to following Laureate’s successes and contributions in the years ahead.”

Serck-Hanssen added, “We are grateful for Bob’s contributions to our work over several years. Bob brought decades of expertise in global affairs and experience with major corporate boards, which have been an asset to Laureate as we marked significant achievements for our global network.”
