Laureate Education, Inc., the global leader in higher education, to offer authorized AWS cloud computing courses as part of the academic curriculum to enrolled students at select institutions across its network

BALTIMORE, Nov. 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Laureate Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LAUR) announced participation in AWS Academy, a new Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) program, to expand learning opportunities in cloud computing throughout Latin America and other parts of the world, in an effort to meet the growing employment demand for cloud computing specialists. Through AWS Academy, students across the Laureate International Universities network can enroll in courses to acquire and expand the skills and credentials needed for careers in cloud computing technology and help them prepare for industry-recognized AWS Certifications.

Beginning next year, the distribution, faculty development support, and delivery of two AWS-authorized courses will be offered and maintained by the AWS Academy—Academy Cloud Foundations and Academy Cloud Architecture - to students enrolled in Laureate’s higher education institutions in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Peru, as well as to students enrolled in other Laureate institutions in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. The Laureate International Universities network currently serves over 1 million students globally, 850,000 of which are located throughout Latin America.

Through AWS Academy, Laureate will be able to offer its students the opportunity to learn about cloud computing through creative interactive learning, lab work, and state-of-the-art digital educational materials that AWS Academy has recently made available in Spanish and Portuguese. Courses are taught by AWS Academy Accredited Instructors who are trained by AWS to help students become proficient in AWS services and solutions and prepare college graduates and professionals at all levels to advance their careers in cloud computing technologies and business transformation.

Eilif Serck-Hanssen, Chief Executive Officer of Laureate, explains the importance of the new relationship with AWS in furthering Laureate’s commitment to becoming the technology-enabling leader in global higher education. “In an ever-changing global economy and digital landscape, our priority is to ensure that Laureate students are prepared with the in-demand knowledge and skills that allow them to significantly contribute to their communities, countries, and to the global economy. By working with global brands like Amazon Web Services, we can strengthen our commitment to student outcomes and employability, enhancing our curriculum with meaningful learning experiences and content that link students to successful careers in the growing field of cloud computing.”

According to Scott McKinley, AWS Academy Leader, AWS Worldwide Training, Amazon Web Services, Inc., “IT professionals with the necessary cloud skills are in high demand and we’re proud to further advance the training and learning opportunities for students involved in Laureate Education, Inc. With AWS Academy, students will be positioned as skilled professionals who can support IT initiatives with AWS technology knowledge and skill mastery.”

As of today, two of Laureate’s largest universities, Universidad del Valle de Mexico (UVM) and Universidade Anhembi Morumbi (UAM), in Brazil have already started the onboarding and training process to offer AWS Academy cloud computing courses as part of their academic curriculum starting in January 2019. Other universities throughout the Laureate International Universities network will roll out the AWS Academy courses throughout next year.
